Star Wars – The New Republic

So no one knows I am coming home. I thought it would be fun to surprise everyone and surprise them well. We all went back to Cortneys house and got into our costumes. I ironed for about an hour then painted my face white. After getting dressed and adding the red final touches, I was Queen Carmidala. read more

Superfriends to the Rescue

In keeping with my resolution to get out more, I went to a laser concert at the Odyssium. I have never been to anything like that and my friend Dave (TravelPod member: planetcaravan) is always trying expand my musical horizons. He is about to embark on the Wonderful World of Hostels so I thought this would be a fitting send off. He was almost vibrating in excitement when I told him we were going to see a Pink Floyd laser show. I thought it was pretty cool and even recognized a few songs.

Fellowship of the Beats

“The world is changed… I feel it in the water… I feel it in the earth… I smell it in the air… Much that once was, is lost… For none now live, who remember it… It began with the forging of the Great Rings. Three were given to the Elves, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Seven to the Dwarf lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And nine, nine rings were gifted to the race of men, who, above all else, desire power. But they were, all of them, deceived, for another Ring was made. In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord Sauron forged in secret a master Ring, to control all others. And into this Ring he poured his cruelty, his malice and his will to dominate all life. One Ring to rule them all.” read more

Chocolate Carmella

I am here in my living room. Surrounded by boxing day flyers that I just finished reading. Its 11:48pm and I think the stores are closed. Good thing. There were some good deals that I may have tried to rush out for. But then really. I think about it seriously. Do I need it? Nah. I will go get kitty litter tomorrow…that I know I need for sure. Bet they didn`t have any boxing day blowout sales on kitty litter. read more

Best New Years Yet

Between Xmas and New Years, I tried to get a few things done, including preparations for my upcoming trip to Ottawa to meet once again with my TravelPod counterparts. I also wanted to help my friends set up for the the huge New Years party that was in our midst. I have to admit that I was feeling a little strange knowing that we were heading into a new year with no snow and above freezing temperatures. Hey, I am not complaining, believe me. I just have to remind myself constantly that I am in Canada because at times, the weather sure doesn`t let me know it. read more

Hockey Nerves

Sitting outside my favorite tea shop on Whyte Ave just an hour before the big game. I have had to really monitor my game watching as I have found myself getting just a little too worked up. My poor cat, Magic, would run and hide under furniture when things would get tense. I guess sometimes I can get a tad over passionate about it. Who wouldn`t? read more

Notion of Commotion with the Motion of the Ocean

I have had quite a lot of changes lately and it appears that there are more to come. Finally all the bank stuff with the new property is done but negotiations were not easy. Mortgages, interest rates and property assessments used to be hip to my slang but now, it appears that I have lost the language. I sat there signing oodles of paperwork feeling quite clueless. My only guess is that brain cells that were used for budgets and finance and technologies are a bit rusty. I realized that I should really be old hat at this having done it twice before. It appears that I go through this re-financing/property buying phase every 5 years. It seems to be the one investment that seems most profitable in this economy. read more

Play Time

One nice thing about Edmonton summers is the multitude of things to do at any given time, on any given day. If and when you are bored, it is completely your choosing. I have been feeling bored lately then I realized that this was a state in my control. So I decided to throw myself in the thick of things starting with a visit to the highly acclaimed Shakespeare in the Park. read more

Impromptu Dinner and Dancing

Shelley picked me up late that afternoon and we began our road trip to Calgary. I love these surprise mini-trips that manifest out of nowhere. We stopped to grab some snacks and then were off down the highway. Shell played leapfrog with the big trucks and other roadtrippers on their way to Cowtown. We passed through a short but intense storm which threw some heavy rain and hail at us. Shell asked it to stop because she didn`t want any dents her new car and as swiftly ads it began, it ended. And then the sun came out beaming rays of light through the misty clouds. read more

Stop at the Fruit Stands

On Sunday, Shelley, Marco and I took a short day trip to the Rockies. We brunched in Canmore dotting the cute little town with our presences leaving just before the storm kicked up. Reminded me of all the mountain dreams I had been formulating. I found the most beautiful antique writing set in the store and I am not sure why I didn`t buy it. The glass pen was almost identical to the ones I saw in the Czech Republic. read more
