Stop at the Fruit Stands

On Sunday, Shelley, Marco and I took a short day trip to the Rockies. We brunched in Canmore dotting the cute little town with our presences leaving just before the storm kicked up. Reminded me of all the mountain dreams I had been formulating. I found the most beautiful antique writing set in the store and I am not sure why I didn`t buy it. The glass pen was almost identical to the ones I saw in the Czech Republic. read more

Road to Shambhala

My friends picked me up from work so we could leave the city as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I forgot my tent at home so we had to go by my house anyway. I ended up falling asleep shortly after we hit the highway only to wake up just as we entered downtown Calgary. I was a bit confused as this was completely out of the way and would no doubt tack on at least another hour onto our drivetime. After missing the exit towards the freeway out of town, we got stuck behind some huge mile long police roadblock. I was frustrated and hungry as we drove around lost in the burbs of this sprawling city while the sun drifted further into the horizon. read more

Catch up sleeps

After locating our friends who had arrived weeks before to volunteer with setup, we set up our tents. I was pleased to see that most of the people I know from Edmonton, though in different “crews”, had somehow managed to all camp beside each other.

I visited and greeted newcomers as they streamed in carload by carload. Our reserved area quickly filled up with familiar faces. I was quite exhausted and the sun was really taking it out of me. I decided to go to sleep early and ended up sleeping till about noon the next day. When I peered out of my little tent, I noticed that quite a few more tents had mushroomed up. read more

Ask and ye shall recieve

I woke up with blueberry pancakes on my brain. I had been dreaming about them and then suddenly overheard people at the next tent talking about making them for breakfast. I felt a little sad that I hadn`t brought stuff to make some because I was craving them really bad. I dragged myself out of bed and thought to head down to the food vendors to grab something to eat. On my way, I came upon a sign that some girls had just put up next to their camp. I was astonished that somehow my dream had manifested and two dollars later, I was chowing down. I was all smiles after devouring my hot organic blueberry pancakes smothered in real maple syrup. read more

Dancing Princess and her Royal Family

That night, the Twisted Pixies asked me to be their leader again and tour them around. We all dressed up in elaborate costumes and looked quite fantabulous as we marched around. Jenna and Zack had just gotten married a few days before and were on their honeymoon. Their fairytale wedding was done with a mystical medival flavor so you can imagine the attention we got. We all danced around the Portal getting our fill of Psy Trance with our cloaks, staffs, gowns and capes. Trevor Moontribe captivated us with dark forceful peaks and valleys of sound. read more

Fairy Friends

I ran into Chelsea who I had met briefly before at a couple of parties but never really got to know too deeply. She made me a yummy burrito and then we went on a mission together. We navigated the thousands of tents to find one that her friends were at then weaved back through the metropolis. read more

Miss Dress Up

Sunday was pretty relaxed and I took my time doing a few errands suddenly wondering where the day had gone. I dressed up then wandered down to the food vendors to treat myself to a healthy dinner. I decided on the Indian food simply because they had the most sauces. I love sauce and if my food can`t swim, it will generally have a problem. I ate slowly contemplating my surroundings feeling grateful to live in a country that enjoys such freedom. read more

Dancing makes you young again

When the beeping woke me, I laid there for about 30 seconds contemplating going back to sleep instead of getting out there into the cold night air. With a little effort, I dressed myself in my party skirt and stumbled out of my tent. I figured that dancing to Psy Trance at the Portal stage would wake and warm me up. I moved about finding my friends one by one enjoying the heaviness of Hallucinogen. I danced around for a while and taught a young girl about flags. Once she had them, she couldn`t put them down and it was nice to see someone so exuberant about learning. read more

Nephews First Fishing Trip

In the few days I had between returning from Shambhala and leaving for Burning Man, I accomplished a lot. I returned on Wednesday late afternoon and found out I had only 12 hours to prepare to take my nephews camping. It was our first of what will be an annual Auntie-Nephew camping/fishing adventure. I was a bit nervous because they are still just finding their feet and haven`t spent much time away from their parents. I made sure that we stayed relatively near the city in case they needed to use their emergency ride home option. read more

Cool Cats

Jen, Dave and I went for Indian then we ventured out to Whyte for dessert. There we met up with QC who helped us demolish the decadent chocolate creations. I was able to see my entire family thanks to a BBQ put on by my parents on Sunday afternoon.

It was so nice to have much overdue heart to heart with my big brother, Paul and his wife Shauna. After stuffing myself silly, I hobbled home and lobbed myself into bed. Monday I peppered visits with special friends with urgent errands. Lisa and I dined on sushi then I met Petra to wander the Fringe festival. Petra gave me my first hula hoop which I will try to learn at the Burn. read more
