All nighters – Edinburgh, United Kingdom

I had an exciting time staying awake all nite with Jules, Jon, Andy and Scott. But I somehow made it onto the bus this morning. I know that this is probably not a good pattern to be keeping when I see people like Gus who walk in and say `You did it again didn’t you` shaking his head with disbelief. I am thinking its probably a Scottish thing.

I am always amazed at how sometimes you can meet just the right people at just the right time…and they make your day. Jules is a very intelligent and s read more

Relaxing in the Castle Gardens – Edinburgh, United Kingdom

So now I have left the Highlands to continue on my way. I have much more ground to cover. I was surprised at how sunny and warm it was today in Edinburgh. I was a little nervous about having to come back to a big city but I met a ton of great old and new friends last night.

Today I sat in Edinburgh Castle Gardens and watch a father playing fetch with his little boy. I couldn`t help but rest my head and take a little nap. The grass was so green and soft, the sun was so warm, the sound of th read more

Making myself at home – Oban, United Kingdom

I arrived in Oban after a very scary and loud bus ride. I don`t get motion sickness often but the driver Mike thought he was at the Indy 500, I think. Also, this guy is loud naturally but found it necessary to almost swallow the microphone. Even with earplugs it was excruciating. Anyway, we weren`t even half way to Oban when I made my decision to stay on for a few days, if for no other reason but to avoid getting back on that bus again.

It was a good decision indeed. I met Carmella from read more

Fairy Castles and Waterfalls of Youth – Isle of Skye, United Kingdom

I had such a peaceful feeling in Skye. I wasn`t sure if it was the birdsong or the way the sun warmed my skin. I spent an entire day sitting in nature with an otter and various other animals that came by to say hello. I also met many great people while sitting at the castle in Kyleakin.

A great part of travelling is that you meet so many people that were strangers a minute ago but now you have shared a special moment by both experiencing the same thing for the very first time. Its a very read more

Invitation – Isle of Skye, United Kingdom

Naked and blind
Curiously aware
Outstretched hand
Paint the stars with me
Stoke this fire
Four eternity can be found within its flames
Cast away the mask
Burst open the doors
Unleash the dam
Forgive me. I didn’t see you there

Dream Awaken – Skye, United Kingdom

As a crisp white linen covers the bed, a calm of energy lies just above where we call ground. Each droplet of water is another chance at life.

The whispers of the trees can only be heard in silence. Only through the gentle grace of open hearts can we give voice to the mute.

Only then can we feel the song that is universal. The music that penetrates all barriers.

The visible smile is congruent with the light in their eyes, the bow of their head and the open palm. Pay attentio read more

Taking a dip in Loch Ness – Inverness, United Kingdom

Last night I went to the Liquid Room with a bunch of people. I really couldn`t get into it until I closed my eyes and just danced. It was a good nite for the most part even though I was surrounded by people I didn`t know.

I got back to the hostel at 430am-ish and had a wonderful conversation with Gus until 830am when it was time to leave for the Highlands. I can`t believe how many people have been recommending that I go back up to the Highlands.

So I dragged myself to the back of t read more

Playing in the Playground – Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Today, we trekked up then down a volcano in the hot hot sun. It was as much fun as three girls could have on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Renee, Arianne, and I decided that a game in the playground down at the bottom would be fitting after such an excursion. We swung high our feet touching the sky.

We stretched our weary legs on the merry-go-round and taught a future photographer how to take her first pictures. There were some beautiful little scotch boys walking their puppy who literal read more

Little Miss Backpacker – Edinburgh, United Kingdom

When I first arrived in Edinburgh, I wasn`t thrilled with it but this place really grows on you. Edinburgh has many hidden surprises which can only be discovered by exploring and sometimes getting lost. Which hey, I have almost mastered after Amsterdam.

The ghost tour was creepy even though I didn`t actually see any ghosts. The tales of Jekyll and Hyde as well as witch stories will keep you jumpy long after the sun has come up. Even in the daytime, there is a inconspicuous feeling of appre read more

Take Time – Western Highlands, United Kingdom

Are we too busy to get lost in the landscapes of our world? When you pay for a scenic and historical tour of the Scotland Highlands with its Lochs and Glens and Hairy Coo`s but you spend most of the time on your cell phone, I think its a bad sign. When you hear about fences intricately made of stone without mortar which have become all but extinct to cheaper and easier wire fences. You try to take your picture but the power lines get in the way.

In Scotland, the magical stories and legends read more
