In with the New

My New Years Eve was great because my sister and her husband joined me at the big year end bash my friends put on. It was the first time they have visited this part of my life and met all my friends. This meant I also got to spend my sisters` birthday with her for the first time in I don`t know how long. Unfortunately, they left quite early (being parents and all) and shortly after my recent illness decided to make a sudden comeback in full force. Things went from bad to worse as an important relationship began to dissolve unexpectedly and rather rapidly. I spent first few days of 2007 lost, confused and hurting in every way.

I have been very sick over the past few weeks and have had some trying situations to deal with. I gave in and went to the doctor for the first time in years. If I learned anything over the past year, it would be that no one is an island. Sometimes we all need a little help.

“It is not so much our friends` help that helps us as the confident knowledge that they will help us.” -Epicurus

So 2006 came in kinda shakey and went out really rough. In between, I had a lot of ups and downs but certainly became stronger. I learned so much about being more proactive about my health, physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. I had a few minor upsets but used them as springboards to propel myself in new direction.

Favorite parts of 2006 in no particular order:

-Deciding to intentionally “Create my life”
-Going to Hawaii with Stephanie
-Moving out of the suburbs and into the heart of the city
-Buying my dream condo (and watching the Edmonton Real Estate market boom)
-Accepting that those who “challenge” me as great teachers and not rejecting the lessons
-Meeting Magic (the cat) and deciding to be roommates
-Reconnecting with my family after my years away
-The Edmonton Oilers almost winning the Stanley Cup
-Learning about letting go
-Teaching my nephews to fish
*Burning Man*
-Helping the TravelPod community blossom and watching the site grow so intensely
-Being blessed to have met so many members of my “tribe”, my people, my chosen family

Thank you to everyone who has touched me this year. I am forever grateful for the patience and support given so unconditionally. I know that the adjustment to living at home again after traveling so long really brought out a “difficult” side of me. I just want to recognize that without your love, I wouldn`t be where I am.

I believe that 2007 is going to be a year to break all the record books. I feel quite positive about it and am more focused than ever. I have struggled with extremes in the past and know that generally they don`t bring out my best. My theme this year is Health and Balance. The by product of these goals should be something quite peaceful. Hopefully with that, I can serve those around me more effectively.

Grateful for progress.
