Fellowship of the Beats

“The world is changed… I feel it in the water… I feel it in the earth… I smell it in the air… Much that once was, is lost… For none now live, who remember it… It began with the forging of the Great Rings. Three were given to the Elves, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Seven to the Dwarf lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And nine, nine rings were gifted to the race of men, who, above all else, desire power. But they were, all of them, deceived, for another Ring was made. In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord Sauron forged in secret a master Ring, to control all others. And into this Ring he poured his cruelty, his malice and his will to dominate all life. One Ring to rule them all.” read more

Creating the Costume

So the next big party is coming up this weekend and I decided to help in the decorations. I spent some time with Mel and Thad doing a bit of painting. We were going to go to the clubhouse but they suddenly got tickets to the hockey game. I headed over with Ritchie and kept him company for a while while he worked on his string art. Then despite the Tim Hortons coffee, I got too cold and went home. read more

Caring is Sharing

I just finished trying to put up my Christmas lights. I decided not to do the tree this year because its enough trying to get this house filled up with furniture not to mention trees. It will be a classic Christmas for me with green glowing mini lights around my front windows. The problem is that I decided to use masking tape to attach them and its a lot harder than I thought. I completed one of the smaller side windows. I may try again tomorrow or perhaps bribe some help with some special eggnog. I think that idea sounds a lot more fun. read more

Superfriends to the Rescue

In keeping with my resolution to get out more, I went to a laser concert at the Odyssium. I have never been to anything like that and my friend Dave (TravelPod member: planetcaravan) is always trying expand my musical horizons. He is about to embark on the Wonderful World of Hostels so I thought this would be a fitting send off. He was almost vibrating in excitement when I told him we were going to see a Pink Floyd laser show. I thought it was pretty cool and even recognized a few songs.

A Friend Is as a Friend Does

I was feeling a little down and very much alone in my big empty house. Sus has gone on a side trip to Vancouver so I have me and only me to contend with. I realized my “people” hadn`t really had much contact with me since my return. I know they are busy but I had to wonder what happened to my “welcome commitee” especially after they begged me to come home. I understand that it is hard for non-travelling types to understand or even fathom the shock of coming home. I also think it is difficult for people to be around someone going through this. read more

Joining the Telecommunity once again

So I finally caved and got a phone. It was the best non-commital deal I could find. I really don`t feel comfortable signing a 3 year contract so I shopped around for a Pay as you Go deal. I found a phone that even has a camera (crappy but still) and video and lots of other strange things I wonder why I would need. For example, there is a calorie counter, application page and even picture editing capabilities. I can`t even figure out how to use the ringtones and web access let alone send a text message. This is when those long 16 hour bus rides would come in handy. read more

Doozers Rock

I have spent the last few days running around getting basics. It`s a funny thing when you look in your cupboards and they are completely bare. I ended up putting one thing on each shelf just to spread it out a bit. So there is a cup here and a fry pan there. I went out and bought stuff like salt, tea and ketchup. It`s so strange when you have to start all over with the basics. You really wonder why you really need them. Then you imagine a French fry without ketchup and you remember that it is a staple. read more

The Carm Crash

So after the party (8am ending) I spent the day at Thads house helping Mel celebrate her birthday. I didn`t get out of there until past 9pm so when my head hit the pillow, I slept. The next two days everything mental, physical and emotional pretty much caught up with me. I basically felt like I got hit by a convoy of Mack trucks…again again and again. This is all I have from those two days:

I am so tired. I actually feel weak. I can`t tackle too much at a time. Or I get sweaty and out of breath. When I sleep I don`t really feel rested and I have to drag my eyes open and summon all my energy to move. read more

Star Wars – The New Republic

So no one knows I am coming home. I thought it would be fun to surprise everyone and surprise them well. We all went back to Cortneys house and got into our costumes. I ironed for about an hour then painted my face white. After getting dressed and adding the red final touches, I was Queen Carmidala. read more

House Sweet Home – Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Got of the plane at just before midnight and Stacy was waiting for us in the Calgary airport. We would stay overnight and then drive back to Edmonton in the morning. Stacy brought us coats and the others were a lot more brave than me. It was damn cold out! I did my little shiver dance hopping from foot to foot while waiting for the car door to be unlocked. I was quiet the whole ride home as I thought about all that it meant to be home. read more
