Funky Green Medina – Rotorua, New Zealand

I was pretty impressed with the backpacker that I stayed at in Rotorua. I knew it was going to be an interesting stay when I had a strange alien conversation with the owner upon checkin. Funky Green Voyager was very eco-friendly and had just the right amount of quirks to make it feel homey. Chris even filled the kitchen with the delicious aroma of freshly baked muffins every morning. I became something of a fixture here. They asked me on several occasions if I wanted to move into the long-termers quarters.

Imagine how happy I was to notice that directly across the street was a giant supermarket that was open 24 hours, 7 days a week! Woohoo! I had some really nice relaxing days here but was eager to move on after finding out that my camera was delayed in Auckland. Will I ever be able to take pictures again?

After FINALLY checking out, I caught a ride with Bianca and Hilde from Holland to the wonderful town of Taupo. We sniffed out the window on our way out of Rotorua and the air got sweeter. It was a fun drive even though we couldn`t remember the names of any of the songs that we wanted to sing. I explained to the girls how much parts of New Zealand resembled Canada wistfully peering out at the tall green trees lining the windey road. The rain eased and before we knew it, there we were in wonderful Taupo.
